A lot of progress has been made in the last five years to help Arizona reach the 6th lowest rate of adult smoking in the nation. But 14% of adults in Arizona still smoke, and we want to help make it even lower.
That’s why we launched a new campaign in November to raise awareness about ASHLine’s free coaching services to help Arizonans quit smoking.
ASHLine’s Quit Coaching is completely free. When you call, you’re matched with a Quit Coach and you can also get four weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy such as nicotine patches, lozenges and gum.
For the official launch of the campaign, we hosted an event at Talking Stick Resort Arena with the Arizona Department of Health Services and the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 10-11am.
It was a significant day to host the launch because it was also the Great American Smokeout, a national day hosted by the American Cancer Society that encourages tobacco users to make a plan to quit.
We introduced the new “Coaches on Coaching” campaign to a crowd of 100 people who got a chance to meet and greet with special guests Sandy Brondello—Phoenix Mercury Head Coach, and Luis Gonzalez—Arizona Diamondbacks legendary player. The Phoenix Suns dancers and Gorilla were also there for photo ops with attendees.
Luis Gonzalez shared his personal connection to the negative health effects of tobacco, telling the story of how both his father and grandfather died of lung cancer. As a result, he is an avid supporter of those trying to quit smoking.
