Call Length: About 15 minutes

The first time you call the ASHLine, one of our specialists will walk you through the Quit Coaching process. He or she will ask you questions about yourself and about your tobacco use to help match you with the right Quit Coach.

We work with you no matter where you are in wanting to quit.

Coaching is perfect for you if you’re:

  • Ready to quit now
  • Have already quit
  • Quit before and want to again

About the Quit Plan

When you sign up for free Quit Coaching with ASHLine, your Quit Coach helps you develop a Quit Plan—and acts as your personal trainer to help you quit tobacco.

Your Quit Plan shows you exactly what to do every day by combining where you are in wanting to quit with proven strategies.

Your Quit Plan will include:

  • Identifying your triggers
  • Solutions to deal with them
  • When and how you’ll contact  your coach
  • Steps to take if you slip
  • Optional free medication
  • What quitting means for you long-term

6 years coaching

When I was going through treatment, I hated the word ‘failure.’

Because when you quit something, it’s progress. It’s something you continue to do every day. You may have made this attempt to change, and maybe you fell down. But if you want to get back up, I’ll help you. If you want to try again, I’ll help you.


2 years coaching

I smoked on and off for 32 years.

At first it was social smoking—my friends were smoking and I wanted to be like my friends. Fairly quickly it became a habit in its own right. I used to say it took two things to start my car: I had to turn the key in the ignition and I had to light a cigarette.


3 years coaching

Tobacco is something that’s been a friend, a confidant—the thing that was relied on most.

When people call in to the ASHLine, I recognize the relationship they had with smoking, and the cigarette, because their motivation has to be about their decision to quit.
